What is a ceramic coating?

A ceramic coating is a liquid, semi-permanent protective layer applied to properly prepared paint. Once cured, it bonds to the clear coat, adding chemical resistance, UV protection and a deep, slick finish that’s far more durable than traditional waxes or sealants.

Ceramic coatings don’t make a car “scratch-proof”, but they do make it easier to clean, slower to dull down and much more resistant to the elements when looked after correctly.

Benefits of ceramic coating

Deeper gloss & clarity

Applied after machine polishing, coatings help lock in the finish – enhancing clarity, depth and that “wet look” shine.

Easier to wash & maintain

Water beads and sheets off the surface, helping the car stay cleaner for longer and making wash routines quicker and safer.

Protection from the elements

Added resistance against UV, road film and environmental contamination when combined with good wash techniques.

How the coating is applied

1

Wash & decontamination

Snow foam, safe contact wash, wheel cleaning and full chemical decontamination (iron and tar removal) to strip bonded contamination.

2

Clay & inspection

Clay bar used where required to remove remaining bonded contaminants, followed by paint inspection to plan the polishing approach.

3

Machine polishing

Single-stage enhancement or multi-stage correction (depending on package and paint condition) to refine the surface before coating.

4

Panel wipe & coating

Oils and residues removed with panel wipe, then the ceramic coating is applied in controlled sections, levelled and left to begin curing.

Ceramic coatings within my packages

Ceramic coatings are offered as part of my exterior detailing packages rather than as a standalone quick add-on. This means the paint gets the preparation it needs first, rather than simply applying a coating over existing defects.

Premium Exterior Package

Single-stage machine polish, significant uplift in gloss and clarity and shorter-term ceramic or sealant protection – ideal for newer or well-kept vehicles.

Ultimate Exterior Package

Multi-stage correction for heavier swirling and defects, followed by multi-year ceramic protection on paintwork and, where specified, wheels, trims and glass.

Ceramic coating FAQs

How long does a ceramic coating last?

Real-world durability depends on how the car is washed, stored and used. With sensible wash methods, a quality coating can last several years. Aggressive washing and automatic car washes will reduce its lifespan.

Can you just “ceramic coat” my car without polishing?

I don’t recommend it. Coatings lock in the condition of the paint. Applying ceramic over heavy swirls, oxidation or previous defects will only highlight them. Even a light enhancement polish makes a big difference.

Is ceramic coating better than waxing?

Yes. A good ceramic coating offers much stronger chemical resistance, better longevity and improved self-cleaning behaviour compared to traditional waxes or simple sealants.

How do I look after a coated car?

I’ll give you straightforward aftercare advice. In short: avoid harsh chemicals, use safe wash techniques and stay away from automatic brushes. If you’d like, I can also help with ongoing maintenance details.

Thinking about ceramic coating for your car?

If you’re unsure which level of correction or protection is right for you, send a few photos and a quick message about how you use the car. I’ll recommend an approach that fits your goals and your budget.
